Abstract
In 1994 the genocide in Rwanda started to happen. This was a conflict between two ethnic groups, the Hutus and the Tutsis. This event is used as a case study to get an idea of how ethnic religion is represented in cultural productions. This to widen the knowledge of the intersection between religion, media, and conflict. Previous research has shown the relationship between religion and conflict. This research shows a different light on this topic by combining it with the field of media. For this research a visual analysis on two movies, Shooting Dogs and Hotel Rwanda is conducted. Literature research combined with the visual analysis have shown that media and its creators have the power to influence our perception of an event. Ethnic religion is represented in the chosen cultural productions but mostly one side of its story is told. This because the creating process of the cultural production is covered by the subjective glance of its creator. Keywords: ethnicity, religion, cultural productions, Rwandan genocide
