Abstract
Progressively more people start to experience ecological grief as a response to ecological changes. Still, many aspects of ecological grief are unclear since the term is quite new. This thesis focuses on enhancing the understanding of ecological grief from the psychological perspective, through the lens of existing models on grief. Both accounts of individuals experiencing ecological grief and secondary, academic literature are used to obtain a clearer view of ecological grief. This thesis claims that existing grief models can be helpful for understanding the feelings, cognitions and behaviors related to ecological grief. However, the nuance lies differently for ecological grief in comparison to other types of grief. These different nuances show that existing grief models need to be applied with more caution to ecological grief. Additionally, it would be helpful to develop academic concepts and models on ecological grief to make sure that the well-being of individuals experiencing ecological grief can be safeguarded now and in the future.
