Abstract

Within Indigenous studies, one can find many theories and examples of the relationship between Indigenous people and place. However, one does not find much about such a relationship when looking at minorities in Europe, like the Frisians. This thesis studies the relationship between the Frisian identity, spirituality, and place in two ways. By looking at how this relationship is described in folk stories and by discerning the role of this relationship in the lives of Frisian people in the region of Oostergo. I argue that there is a disconnection between the lived experiences of the Frisian people in the region of Oostergo and Frisian folk stories.
