Asylum Seekers in Ter Apel.
Master thesis, Master Religion Conflict and Globalisation.
Abstract
In this thesis, I have looked at how the representations of male Muslim asylum seekers in the Dutch media influenced and contributed to the process of othering. I have focused on the summer of 2022 when the Dutch media reported on the Asylum Crisis, and there was much media attention on male Muslim asylum seekers. In order to get a better understanding of this, I first conducted a literature review, after which I analyzed newspaper articles using content analysis and conducted interviews with six interviewees. In this conclusion, I will look back on my thesis and the research I have conducted. I will be doing this by providing a summary of the answers to my research questions, as presented in the introduction of this thesis.
In order to be able to answer the main research question, I have formulated five sub-questions which I have answered throughout my thesis. Therefore, I will first provide a summary of the answers. This will help me to give an overview and answer my central research question at the end of this conclusion.
